Please take a moment to read through the Chapter Terms and Conditions as well as our policies concerning our web site and the use of our Trademark and Logo.

The following conditions apply to all Red Hat Society sites and domains, including but not limited to: www.redhatsociety.com, www.redhatsociety.net, www.redhatsociety.org, forum.redhatsociety.org, forum.redhatsociety.net, forum.redhatsociety.com, chat.redhatsociety.com, chat.redhatsociety.net, and chat.redhatcociety.org.

Members of Official and/or unofficial Red Hat Society Chapters may not:

  1. Engage in negotiations with any third party on behalf of The Red Hat Society, in part or as a whole.
  2. Use the Red Hat Society name to sell or promote any commercial product or service.
  3. Distribute any type of printed materials in the name of The Red Hat Society in part or as a whole which have not been supplied by The Red Hat Society, Inc. or been given previous approval by The Red Hat Society, Inc.
  4. Use the name of the Red Hat Society, the Red Hat Society logo, Ruby Redhat, or any other piece of intellectual property belonging to the Red Hat Society in conjunction with any unethical, immoral or otherwise inappropriate agencies or affiliations.
  5. Use information from the web site www.redhatsociety.com or from "the Queen Mother Board" (forum.redhatsociety.com) to form e-mail "spam" lists or solicitation lists of any kind.
  6. Use their Red Hat Society affiliation as a means to advertise the sale of commercial merchandise or services to other Red Hat Society members.
  7. Use any of the content of this web site on any other web site or printed material for any purpose without express permission from The Red Hat Society, Inc.
  8. Use "The Queen Mother Board", "Red Hat Chat" and/or any other vehicle of communication provided on this web site to harass, misinform, mislead or confuse others.
  9. Present their chapter as part of an independent organization. If the chapter has a chapter web page, the Red Hat Society name and a link to www.redhatsociety.com must be prominently displayed on the first page, without any "scrolling" necessary.
  10. Use their Red Hat Society affiliation to solicit membership in an organization which appears to be in direct competition with, or be an infringement upon the intellectual property of, the Red Hat Society.
Failure to comply with the above terms and conditions may result in legal or other appropriate action by the Red Hat Society, Inc.

Logo and Trademark Usage Policies

The Red Hat Society name is a registered trademark of the Red Hat Society, Inc. Our logo to the left and Ruby Red Hat to the right are also copyrighted by and trademarks of the Red Hat Society, Inc. protected under law. The Red Hat Society logo pictured to the left is the creation of, and the exclusive intellectual property of, Andrea Jill Reekstin and The Red Hat Society, Inc. Official membership in the Red Hat Society does not give a person the right to use the name, logo or Ruby in any way she wishes. However, Official membership in the Red Hat Society does give an individual special privileges with respect to the use of the Red Hat Society chapter logo and trademark, as deliniated in the paragraphs to follow.Any person or group that uses the Red Hat Society name, logo and/or chapter logo for profit without prior written authorization by the Red Hat Society, Inc. will be subject to prosecution under law.

The animated Ruby Redhat graphic, as found on the center of the home page of the Red Hat Society web site may be used by members of Official Red Hat Society chapters on Official Red Hat Society web sites, name tags, chapter rosters, chapter newsletters, chapter event fliers, and the like without special permission, provided that it is not used to market goods or services of any kind, used to defame the Red Hat Society in any way, or used in connection with objectionable material, as determined by the Red Hat Society, Inc.

Chapter Logo

There is a Red Hat Society Chapter Logo (not shown here) which may be used by members of Official Red Hat Society chapters on Official Red Hat Society chapter web sites, name tags, chapter rosters, chapter newsletters, chapter event fliers, and the like without special permission, provided that it is not used to market or endorse goods or services of any kind, used to defame the Red Hat Society in any way, or used in connection with objectionable material, as determined by the Red Hat Society, Inc. We do however specify that any chapter member using the chapter logo must include the name of her chapter above, beside or below the Red Hat Society Chapter logo so as not to cause confusion.

Who May Make Use of Red Hat Society Trademarks

The Red Hat Society name and logo, and Ruby Redhat, may be used by members of Official Red Hat Society Chapters only. We are sorry, but unofficial chapters may not use the logo for any purpose whatsoever, unless given written permission by The Red Hat Society, Inc.
